April in Japan is the month of awakening. The sakura spread their petals, the parks are filled with walkers and picnics, the sanctuaries welcome the first spring processes. Whether you are in preparation or looking for inspiration, this newsletter accompanies you with an overview of Japan through the flowers, our practical tips and a zoom on our current projects.

Evasions Rebelles at sakura rhythm

April is always an intense month at Evasions Rebelles: between the accompaniments in progress and the journeybooks that follow, we have the privilege of living the Japanese spring in immersion.

This month, we explored the Tōhoku region, rediscovered the paths of Kyoto at dawn, and even crossed the first flowering cherry trees in Hiroshima on 25 March.

New spring routes are being prepared for 2026 — Yes, already!

Japan in April: sweetness, parties and walks

Japan in April is a balance between awakening nature and living culture. Here’s what we recommend:

Taste the sweets of the season: mochi with cherry blossom, ice matcha, latte sakura…

Hanami: much more than photos, a real moment to live — at noon or at night.

的 Parks to discover: Ueno (Tokyo), Maruyama (Kyoto), but also the quieter corners like Shukkeien Park in Hiroshima.

Spring Festivals: from Takayama Matsuri to the festival of Inuyama, April is rich in living traditions.

The trick of Evasions Rebelles: enjoy the hanami differently

No need to be stuck to the crowd to live a successful hanami:

D What if you run away from the sakuras? April is also the month of camellias, azaleas and late plum trees.

Get up early: the most popular places are almost deserted at 6 am.

Try the yozakura: the night contemplation under the lanterns is magical.

The hills of Okayama or the banks of Kumamoto offer a more intimate experience.

What to do in Japan in April?

This is one of the richest months of the year. Here are some ideas to slip into your trip:

    • Join matsuri: Takayama, Inuyama, or Seihō Matsuri in Kyoto.
    • Walk on the Path Philosopher in Kyoto, bordered by cherry blossoms.
    • Explore the gardens of Kanazawa, Okama or Himeji, at the top of their beauty.
    • Visit the small, still quiet mountain towns before the May crowds.
    • Let yourself be carried by the rhythm of spring: terrace breaks, waterfront readings, onsen outdoors.

And you, ready to live one of Japan’s most beautiful months, between flowering, party and lightness?
