The city of Yamanashi is located in north-central Yamanashi Prefecture, at the northeast end of the Yamanashi Basin.Kofuabout 10 kilometers from Kofu. Mainly renowned for her onsen, she has many surprises.

Onsen hottarakashi

The two hot springs of this superbly located onsen are Acchi-no-yu and Kocchi-no-yu.

Kocchi-no-yu is the first bath of the establishment that enjoys perpetual popularity. It consists of an open-air hot spring made of wood and stone and an indoor wooden bath. It offers views of the mountain. Fuji across the street, and the mountain ridge. Kabuto (one of the 100 famous Yamanashi mountains) to the right. On the other hand, Acchi-no-yu which opened at the end of 2003 is twice as large as Kocchi-no-yu. It is popular for its size and views of the fantastic Kofu pool at sunrise. In addition, the source water of Acchi-no-yu springs from 1500 meters and its 10.1 PH softens the skin and prevents the feeling of cold at the exit of the bath.

Hottarakashi onsen campsite

Even if you can find many hotels on Yamanashi, the best is to spend the night at the hottarakashi campsite, located just less than 5 minutes walk from the onsens, making it the ideal place or spend the night before enjoying sunrise in an onsen.

You can go there with your own camping equipment or if necessary, or rent a cabin. For single spaces, the price is 200 yen per night (an extra 1000 yen for electricity)

The campsite is about 700m above sea level and on the heights of the site is the Cafe sanpo (open from 11am to 6pm) where you can drink coffees or beers.

To get to Hottarakashi, many buses leave directly from the Yamanashi train station.

Yamanashi Fuefukigawa Fruit Park

Located on a huge unobstructed hill, the park offers panoramic views of the Kofu Basin and Mount Fuji. It has many fruit trees and flowers. It also features a water playground, a small train and a glass dome offering various family activities for a fun and relaxing day. Three futuristic glass domes are emblematic buildings of the park and offer fun indoor activities, alongside outdoor activities. Among the facilities are the Fruit Hiroba space with a coffee serving the perfect with sumptuous seasonal fruits, the Wanpaku Dome with its indoor play area and the Kobo Kudamono fruit center including a shop where you can buy various souvenirs of Yamanashi. An underground installation will allow you to discover the history and culture of fruits and wine.

Yamanashi Herb Garden

The herb garden of Katsunuma, Yamanashi is a large garden with about 200 kinds of herbs and seasonal flowers that are free to enter. Popular cooking herbs such as rosemary, thyme and mint, tulips in spring, you can enjoy flowers and herbs all year round, such as roses and lavender in early summer, cosmos in autumn and various types of cyclamen and poinsettia colored in the large garden in winter.

Misaka farm grap house or fruit picking

From late June to early August, you can enjoy harvesting the peaches and from mid-July to mid-November, you can enjoy picking the grapes. In spring, peach flowers and rapeseed flowers bloom, creating the contrast of pink and yellow and is perfect for observing flowers. With a capacity of 1,200 people under the vines, you can enjoy a barbecue in summer and the local Yamanashi Hoto cuisine in winter in the middle of nature.

You can eat as many peaches as you like for about 20 to 30 minutes. The place is similar to a cafeteria and is close to the main door and souvenir shop. They even have fresh pineapple at your disposal. You must peel and cut the peaches yourself.

The nearest train station is the Isawa-Onsen train station on the JR Chuo line. From the station, it takes 10 to 15 minutes by car or taxi or 15 minutes by bus. Get off at the Natsume bus stop.

Yamanashi has everything for travellers looking to discover a new facet of Japan. Far from mass tourism, the city and its prefecture are close to the Japanese rural daily.
