The month of June in Japan is a smooth transition between spring freshness and summer heat. Between welcome showers and first heats, this is the ideal time to explore another face of the country: more intimate, more vegetal, often ignored… but never disappointing. In this edition, we share our season tips, a clever travel tip, and events not to be missed this month.

Evasions Rebelles in tsuyu mode

It is the rainy season in Japan – but no panic: it is also one of the most photogenic moments of the year. The landscapes are bright green, the seasonal flowers are performing, and the crowds are often more discreet.

At Evasions Rebelles, we love creating itineraries that take advantage of this unique atmosphere. This month, we are working on three new custom projects in Kansai, the Japanese Alps and Kyūshū… And it gives us great ideas to share.

Traveling to Japan in June: between rain and poetry

We often hear that June is a month to avoid… This is far from our opinion. Here’s how to make it a special moment:

  • Enjoy temples in the rain: fewer visitors, more magic.
  • Admire the hortensias and iris: Kamakura, Hase-dera, Meigetsuin or the sanctuary of Fukuoka are covered.
  • Rent a transparent umbrella, typical of the conbinis: it will be one of your most beautiful photos!
  • Relax in the onsen in nature, especially pleasant in cool and humid weather.

The trick of Evasions Rebelles: alternatives to the JR Pass

Did you know that not all JR Passes are worth it?

In June, instead of taking a national JR Pass, we recommend regional versions, often more advantageous if you explore a single area: Kansai Wide, Tohoku Area, Sanyo-San’in… You save time, flexibility, and sometimes even bonus options like buses or ferries. We help you choose the right one and make the best use of it in your personalized journey book.

What to do in Japan in June?

The month of June is not only humid, it is alive: shintō weddings, green rice fields, flower gardens, intimate festivals… Here are our suggestions:

  • Consider the hortensias in Hakone or Kamakura.
  • Walk under the mist at Mount Kurama or in the forests of Yakushima.
  • Join Sanno Matsuri in Tokyo or Takigi Noh in Kyoto.
  • Cook and taste the seasonal flavours: grilled eels, ume plums, sōmen cold noodles.
  • Escape to the less known islands like Shōdoshima or Sado, perfect off-season.

And you, ready to live a poetic Japan, in the rain as well as in the sun?
